Cogmed Working Memory Training
Cogmed Working Memory Training is a computer-based method for attention problems caused by poor working memory. Cogmed is a well-documented, scientific method for people constrained by their working memory capacity, either by birth, injury/disease, or due to aging.
What does Cogmed do?
Working memory supports better academic and professional performance and is used for a number of things:
The Cogmed program consists of 25 training sessions completed online, each 30-45 minutes long.
Every session includes a variety of selected tasks targeting different working memory components.
The program includes different exercises that automatically adjust during the training period. As the user improves, the difficulty increases.
The training takes place online at home, in school, or at work. For children, the parent/training aide does not need to set or change anything – this is done automatically.
The standard duration of the program is 5 weeks long with 5 sessions every week. Through systematic training, this intensive method works at enhancing working memory and attentional behavior.
This research-based, innovative training is only available through select providers. As a Cogmed Provider, we work with each user to provide guidance, motivation, and feedback on the progress.
The Cogmed program is rigorous, but rewarding, and for maximum efficiency, sustained effort and professional guidance are critical. Cogmed has a proven track record of providing users with excellent support and results. As a Cogmed provider, we provide screening to evaluate the possible benefits of each of our clients using this method.
Fast ForWord® by Scientific Learning
About Fast ForWord®
The Fast ForWord® program by Scientific Learning develops and strengthens memory, attention, processing rate, and sequencing—the cognitive skills essential for learning and processing skills necessary for modulation of behavior, as well as school and reading intervention program success. The strengthening of these skills results in a wide range of improved critical language and reading skills such as phonological awareness, phonemic awareness, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, decoding, working memory, syntax, grammar, and other skills necessary for learning and to become a better student.
Fast ForWord® Works To Enhance Brain Plasticity
Scientific Learning products are based on over 30 years of foundational research into how the brain learns. Brain plasticity refers to the brain’s ability to change at any age throughout life. Boosting the brain's ability to process information through intense exercises and activity can cause permanent physical changes in the brain. An increase in "gray matter" will strengthen connections and new neural connections will result in a change in sensory processing and learning abilities. Fast ForWord® products are based on proven neuroscientific research and are delievered as a series of computer based exercises which can be done in the clinic or at home.
The Fast ForWord® program consists of a series of computer-delivered brain exercise "games" which improve academic achievement with a variety of student populations, including those who are At-Risk, in Special Education and General Education Students who want to improve their ability to process information. These products are validated by independent researchers, accepted by the scientific community, and backed by years of research.
About Interactive Metronome
Interactive Metronome® (IM) is an advanced brain-based treatment program designed to promote and enhance brain performance. Interactive Metronome is the only brain fitness program that promotes both cognitive and physical health. The program incorporates movement and coordination and is backed by more published research than any other neuro-motor training program. Users learn to focus and attend for longer periods of time, increase physical endurance and stamina, filter out internal and external distractions, improve ability to monitor mental and physical actions as they are occurring, and progressively improve performance. Interactive Metronome is based on the theories of temporal processing and is supported by tightly controlled randomized clinical research. IM Home Units are available for our clients to work on at home or wherever they happen to be in their own time,as they can fit into their daily lives.
The Interactive Metronome training program usually consists of about 15 one-hour private sessions with a Certified IM Practitioner which can be completed in just 5-7 weeks. Some individuals will need more than 15 sessions if they have unusually impaired rhythm and timing skills. We recognize that this program requires a significant commitment of time and energy. Commitment to complete the course is necessary in order to ensure results.
